Cody Rhodes finally became Undisputed Universal WWE Champion by beating Roman Reigns with help from John Cena and The Undertaker at WrestleMania.
A frenzied finish to the main event saw the iconic legends return to help fend off The Rock and the rest of the Bloodline to ensure Rhodes secured a hugely popular win in Philadelphia.
WWE supremo Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque was then among those to celebrate with the new champ who was lifted aloft in the ring by the likes of Randy Orton, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
Rhodes unseating Reigns ended one of the longest title runs in the history of the industry.
Going into WrestleMania Sunday, the former Shield member had held top gold in WWE for a phenomenal 1,317 days.
Many had expected the former AEW star to topple The Tribal Chief at last year’s WrestleMania, only for Reigns to retain thanks to interference by Solo Sikoa.
Rhodes bagged himself a second consecutive Mania title bout against Reigns at WrestleMania by winning January’s Royal Rumble, but had stepped aside to allow The Rock to face off against his cousin instead before fan reaction resulted in a major reshuffle of plans.
Reigns controlled much of the opening portion of the match, the second night in succession the duo had wrestled following Saturday’s epic tag-team match that triggered Sunday’s Bloodline Rules stipulation.
Rhodes had kicked out of a Cross Rhodes from Reigns as the champ tried to use the challenger’s own move against him, following up with a low blow and powerbomb through a table.
Jimmy Uso was the first to interfere in the clash, before brother Jey evened up the odds.
